The Retreat - Time to get excited!

Immerse yourself in the beautiful Swiss Alps and walk away with a next-level skill set to create top-notch visual content for your business and travel endeavors.

WHAT & WHERE

We’ll spend 7 days with a group of like-minded photography enthusiasts (7 to 14 people) in the Swiss Alps, where we’ll dive deep into the world of photography and photo editing.

Our home base will be a chalet in Grimentz – hosted by coworking place Swiss Escape – which is situated in a beautiful mountain village in the South of Switzerland. From here we will explore the region every day and put into practice what you have learned during the days.

Altogether, this week WILL bring you a next-level skill set to (finally) create amazing, creative top-notch visual content.
Bring your business to a higher level by creating visually compelling images that really make you stand out.
Raise the bar on your social media by sharing actual quality content from your future travel adventures or business endeavors.

This is not only an educational and fun photography retreat; it will most likely be the best tax write-off you will have this summer!

Visualizing an image even before you capture it is the first step towards taking an impressive photograph. In other words, you need to recognize the potential of a picture. For that, you need to have the “photographer’s eye”. If you’re attending a retreat like this, you save a lot of time by learning from the experienced pro on how to be sure about what you are going to capture. The background, geometry, angle, proportion, aesthetics, and all other aspects that make a photograph truly beautiful and a piece of art is a hard process to learn, but it becomes easier if you have the guidance of a professional and expert around you.

This retreat is not a place where you will be “told” what to do and what not to do. I will act more like a guide who will point you in the right direction but you will walk toward it at your own pace and in your own way. In fact, this isn’t a one-way process. I will learn from your minds and vision too.

WHAT YOU NEED TO BRING

The only thing you need for this retreat is a laptop and camera that allows manual control of aperture, ISO, and exposure and can shoot in RAW format. Basically, anything other than a smartphone will do these days. If you have a tripod, definitely bring it!

For editing; Adobe offers trials for Lightroom if you don’t have it yet.

But the most important thing is to bring what you use! Whether that’s a compact camera, a full DSLR outfit, or just about anything in between. We will start from scratch but all levels of experience are welcome.

About Your Host - Why they rock.

My name is Tijmen Hobbel, I'm a Dutch photographer and videographer, roaming the world in search of opportunities to create compelling images. I started as a (touring) concert photographer with bands all over Europe and even beyond. Later on, I focussed more on travel (nature/documentary) and events.

Through the years, I gained a lot of experience from all the adventures in so many different environments which I would like to share with those who are willing to learn.
I've been lucky enough to have captured and edited beautiful footage all over the world for international clients including small sustainable local brands, international organizations, TV stations, newspapers, and a lot of bands.

Switzerland, in particular, is one of my favorite places to go to in Europe. I have been there many times and fell in love with the natural beauty and diversity it has to offer.

The Itinerary - A general overview of the program.

FIELD TRIPS
This is where most of the magic happens! We will visit the mountains by cable car, go to the forest, visit the Moiry dam, hike to a glacier, go into town and do night photography

PHOTO EDITING
You will learn how to get the maximum out of your photos by editing them in Adobe Lightroom, the industry standard software.

FEEDBACK ROUNDS
It's hugely beneficial to learn from each others' work. Every day we will spend 1 hour to look at each others' photos and give critiques.

SOCIAL ACTIVITIES
We all need time to relax and bond (or take some me-time).
We will cook together and there's time to play games, music and relax, do yoga, and recharge for the next day of activities!

Accommodation - Your retreat digs and places of note.

Swiss Escape will be the place that we call home for a week. Imagine waking up to the panoramic view of the Alps...
